Nicky Cooper | Nurse, Therapist & Storyteller

Close-up of a middle-aged woman with gray hair, wearing black glasses and a blue shirt, lying down on a tiled surface with sunlight and shadow patterns.

A nurse, therapist and storyteller working with people like you who are holding more than they can say, to help them make sense of what they’re carrying.

A person's open hands cupping a small yellow flower with a green stem against a blurred dark background.

You've been strong for so long, you've forgotten what it feels like to be held in a way that lets you breathe.

You're the one people lean on. The one who keeps going. The one who holds it together while quietly coming apart inside. And somewhere along the way, you stopped being able to tell anyone, maybe even yourself, how much you're actually carrying.

It's not burnout exactly. It's more like you've been away from yourself for a long time, that you can't quite find your way back.

There may be moments where nothing looks particularly wrong from the outside, and yet something inside of you feels harder to place than it used to.

Life continues in all the usual ways, but your sense of being fully inside it doesn’t feel as steady as it once did. It’s not easy to explain, and most people probably won’t have noticed much has changed, but you can feel it.

This doesn’t mean you’re failing or that something is wrong with you. More often it’s what happens when you’ve had to adapt over time, until those ways of coping start to feel like identity.

When something is witnessed long enough, it begins to remember itself.

Some things don't need solving. They need to be witnessed long enough that they begin to make sense again.

Nothing about you has been lost, even if it hasn’t felt that way for a while.

I think things become harder and feel out of reach when life has required you to stay elsewhere for a time.

You don't need a programme, a framework or a fix. You need to be met here with what’s actually happening.

My Latest Book is Out Now

The 7-Day Sabbatical: A Nurse's Guide to the Inner Work

Our Stories. Our Way Back.

I wrote this book alone in a forest cabin, doing the inner work myself first. It’s seven days of guided stories, science, practices, meditations and journal questions, written for the ones who have held it all together for everyone else, and forgotten themselves along the way.

Some books you read. This one reads you.

I'm Nicky Cooper

Nurse. Therapist. Educator. Writer. Storyteller.

For almost 40 years I’ve worked at the edges, hospitals, homes, hospices, and the quiet spaces where people fall apart and come back together.

I am a Registered Nurse with a Masters degree, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Havening Practitioner, Coach, Reiki Master, Circle of Security facilitator.

But more than any of that: I’ve learned that what most people need isn’t advice, it’s a companion.
